Why did I get "License Manager Error -139"?

I installed Matlab R2013b recently, and it was working fine for a couple of weeks, until today. I ran the spectrogram function, and I got a license error, after which Matlab crashed. When I tried restarting it, nothing happened. I restarted the machine too. After attempting to restart matlab, I got an error message that said "License checkout failed". Here's an image of the error message:
What should I do to fix Matlab?
(I am at Boston University, and my installation disk and licenses came from the IT department.)

Hello Yohan John,
I see that you are facing License related error after which MATLAB crashed.
Please note that, this error may occur if your FLEXnet server is configured with an options file that uses HOST_GROUP's with wildcards.
Upgrade the network license manager to the latest version available. For instructions to resolve this error, please see the link below provided by MathWorks Support Team:
I hope it helps!
