I recently upgraded to Matlab 7.12 R2011a, and now I get an error when using 'iqr' in a script that used to work. When I type ver, here's what I get:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MATLAB Version 7.12.0.635 (R2011a)
MATLAB License Number: ######### [SCd Censor]
Operating System: Linux 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686
Java VM Version: Java 1.6.0_17-b04 with Sun Microsystems Inc. Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM mixed mode
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MATLAB Version 7.12 (R2011a)
Curve Fitting Toolbox Version 3.1 (R2011a)
Signal Processing Toolbox Version 6.15 (R2011a)
When I type license('test','statistics_toolbox'), I get 1
Other statistics toolbox functions like 'std' work. I also tried running iqr on an array in the terminal and got the same error.

FYI: std is part of base MATLAB - it doesn't need the Statistics Toolbox.

I got the same error message when I didn't got the license for the toolbox. You need to use license('inuse') to see if you have been able to checked out the license for that toolbox.
LICENSE('test', FEATURE) tests if a license exists for the product
specified by the text string FEATURE. The LICENSE command returns
1 if the license exists and 0 if the license does not exist.
Note: Testing for a license only confirms that the license
exists. It does not confirm that the license can be checked
out. For example, LICENSE will return 1 if a license exists,
even if the license has expired or if a system administrator
has excluded you from using the product in an options file.
The existence of a license does not indicate that the product
is installed.

You do not show as having the license for the statistics toolbox.
