Extracting data from a figure

I have a figure and I'm using the following code line to extract the information from the figure (the figure is open), however, when I run the code D is an empty matrix

D=get(gca,'Children')

What does "I have a figure" exactly mean? A fig file or the code which creates the figure?

The error message looks like you are opening a .fig file but you do not have the required SizeChangeFcn. Then you can redefine the SizeChangeFcn at first:

FigH = openfig('File.fig');
FigH.SizeChangeFcn = [];
