Simulate AC traction and regeneration

Can anyone please suggest how to model AC traction system, especially how to take care of the running time. Train running time runs into hours and simulation will also run into hours likewise. How to avoid that? Also how to take into consideration regeneration aspect? Ideas are required please. Also example simulations will help.
