Specifying encoding as a function

Hello everyone,
I wrote a code for my genetic algorithm, but I can't specify it as a function, can you help please?
newM=birincifaz.*(1:size(birincifaz,1))';
newM(:,1)=[];
for k=1:size(newM,2)
r=unique(newM(:,k));
r=r(r~=0);
B(:,k)=r(randi(length(r),50,1));
end
yeni=ikincifaz.*(1:size(ikincifaz,1))';
yeni(:,1)=[];
for e=1:size(yeni,2)
m=unique(yeni(:,e));
m=m(m~=0);
H(:,e)=m(randi(length(m),50,1));
end
out = reshape(vertcat(B,H), 50, [])

 Accepted Answer

function out = TheFunctionName(birincifaz, ikincifaz)
However:
This will return an array whose first dimension is at least 50 -- so not a scalar. ga() requires that the function return a scalar, unless the 'UseVectorized' option is true. If UseVectorized is true, then the function needs to return a vector that is the same length as the number of rows in the input.
Also, if birincifaz and ikincifaz are both intended to be varied by ga() then you need to pack both of them into a single vector and extract them inside the function, such as
function out = TheFunctionName(x);
birincifaz = x(1:floor(end/2));
ikincifaz = x(floor(end/2)+1:end);

I'm facing an error, but I'll try again as you said thank you.
B(:,k)=r(randi(length(r),50,1));
That use of randi() is a potential problem. Your objective function should always return the same results for the same inputs; othewise it becomes impossible to fairly compare the effects of changing the various parameters of the model.
I am getting error, how should i fix the code ?
Post your current code.
Hi,
I tried the code like this but it didn't work, the part that I added later is written in bold;
function out = TheFunctionName(x);
birincifaz = x(1:floor(end/2));
ikincifaz = x(floor(end/2)+1:end);
end
newM=birincifaz.*(1:size(birincifaz,1))';
newM(:,1)=[];
yeni=ikincifaz.*(1:size(ikincifaz,1))';
yeni(:,1)=[];
for k=1:size(newM,2)
r=unique(newM(:,k));
r=r(r~=0);
B(:,k)=r(randi(length(r),168,1));
end
yeni=ikincifaz.*(1:size(ikincifaz,1))';
yeni(:,1)=[];
for e=1:size(yeni,2)
m=unique(yeni(:,e));
m=m(m~=0);
H(:,e)=m(randi(length(m),168,1));
end
out = reshape(vertcat(B,H), 168, [])
end

As the 4th line of code you have an "end" statement. That tells MATLAB that you are finished entering the code of the function. Anything after that in the same MATLAB file would have to be one or more function definitions, each concluding with an "end" statement.
Exception: if there were already a "function" definition in process and
function out = TheFunctionName(x);
was in the middle of that other hypothetical function, then the code for that other hypothetical function could continue after the "end" statement for the new function.
You have two choices, depending what you are trying to do:
  1. You could move the "end" statement on line 4 to after all of other code, if that other code is intended to be part of the function; or
  2. You could move the four lines of function to after all of that other code, if the function is intended to be a helper function called from that other code.
