Matlab went to sleep?

Sorry for the silly subject works. What I meant is, my matlab starts up slow (20 sec or so) before giving me command window.
And once in a while, it takes 3 sec or so to calculate something simple as 'hex2dec('abce');' Right after the result is produced, it responsive as long as I keep doing things in the command window.
But as long as I go away and come back after a couple of minutes, it was like matlab went to sleep, 3 secs or so is needed to wake up for the new job.

Are you using a laptop?
Is it plugged into the mains supply or its batteries?
It's corporate workstation, I do have environment variable $LM_LICENSE_FILE setup for other tools to use, although I've read some discussion suggesting dropping this variable. Matlab path variable is quite normal.
OK. I thought that laptop power conservation options might be the problem.
If this significantly interferes with using MATLAB, contact MathWorks Tech Support.
Does this sleep behaviour only affect Matlab? If so, does The Windows Task Manager (if on Windows) indicate activity during these three seconds?

Usually this has to do with the path/current folder/license file being on a network drive.

The license activation mode I used was online, so I don't know if a local license file is used or not. But it sounds silly, if Matlab has to contact remote license once in a while for this type of activation.
Thanks for your sharing.
