Standard individual perpetual licence: what happens after ending the software maintenance service

15 views (last 30 days)
At my place of work, we have a standard individual perpetual Matlab licence for a colleague who uses matlab regularly. We also have a Software Maintenance Service in place.
The Software Maintenance Service costs us a yearly fee.
I am now asking myself, what happens if our accountants decide to terminate the Software Maintenance Service?
Will the colleague still be able to use the already installed Matlab version?
I am under the impression that we have a perpetual licence for this installation, independent of the Software Maintenance Service. What the Software Maintenance Service allows us to do, is to install Matlab updates and new releases as long as the Software Maintenance Service is in place.

You are correct.
  • SMS entitles you to new releases during the time you are under support
  • SMS for Standard licenses entitles you to open support cases
  • SMS entitles you to undertake some administrative actions about moving products around and assigning licenses to users
If you terminate SMS then:
  • you will no longer be entitled to new releases
  • you will no longer be entitled to create technical support cases (except for license / installation issues)
  • if you had products not assigned to any particular user or license, you might not be able to assign them afterwards. (I am not sure of the limits of this; I am going by what someone posted a while ago.)
