How to do symbolic substitution

Hi all, While deriving an equation, I got into trouble when trying to do symbolic substitutions. For example for a symbolic expression 4a+7b, I need a substitution for (a+b), say c, which returns output as 4c+3b. Please give your valuable suggestions. Thank You in advance
