We know that number of layers in Googlenet is 22. But, when I use it in MATLAB and write the following line of code
analyzeNetwork(googlenet)
a window pops up showing 144 layers.
Can someone please explain the reason behind this?

The definition of layers in general literature is different from that of MATLAB layers. For example, the usual "convolution" layer for googlenet in general literature may consists of data layer+conv1 layer+conv1-relu layers in MATLAB. MATLAB layers tend to be finer than the general layers in DNN.
