A common mistake made. You can never determine that some set of data truly is normally distributed. At best, you can possibly determine that it is unlikely the data is normally distributed.

MATLAB implements jbtest and adtest in the Statistics TB. My personal preference is to use the Shapiro-Wilk test. See <NIST Handbook 7.2.1.3>.
