Matlab 2023a slow down
Show older comments
Hi,
Recently switched from Matlab 2022a Update 6 to Matlab 2023 Update 2.
I have a very large project with over 378 model references and numerous subsystem reference models gluing it all together.
We also extensively use Data Dictionarys and there are over 2000 types defined that funnel into a top level Data Dictionary through inheritance.
After installing the update i ran the Upgrade advisor to go through the project and update everything to 2023a which was successful.
However since then opening or saving models takes an eternity.. To save my top level model if a few subsystem references have changed as well just took 20 minutes... the same load on Matlab 2022a would complete in less than a minute.
In additon trying to load my top level data dictionary in 2022a in the bus editor used to take a few seconds... now the type editor seems to just hang up with parts of the GUI not drawing in... I left this for about 40 mins before killing it. The model explorer though loads the types fine.. (Opening a lower level DD with a small number of types in seems fine)
Are these known bugs/issues or is there some new settings in 2023a that is slowing this down?
Its quite frustrating to not be able to use the type editor and having to wait 20mins + to save the model after some updates

Were you able to find the root cause or resolve the issue?

I actually have the same problem with R2022b. The Type editor will open eventually (it takes about an hour) but once open it is unusably slow. (by which I mean it takes 15 minutes to respond to a mouse click, during which time none of the Matlab windows, including the Type Editor can be brought to the foreground.

I don't see anything scanning the Bug Reports for Simulink in release R2023a that sounds related to the performance regression and/or stall you described. I'm not sure how easy it would be to diagnose the cause of this problem without seeing some part of the model (or at least without more information about how the various models, subsystems, and data dictionaries interconnect.)
I advise you to contact Technical Support directly using this link and provide them as much information as you can about your system of models, subsystems, and data dictionaries.
