Software development in Matlab for a standalone application

I have been handed a project to move from excel and research dfiferent possible applications to create the tool we had in excel. The tool is sort of a simulation/calculator that calculates values based on user data entry and data in the backend. The functions that the application needs to perform are:

• Import excel files and receive data and perform calculations.
• allow adding data in the same calculations.
• allow user to communicate with the database.
• Create graphs and visualizations based on the calculations that were made.

The application would be used by multiple users simultaneously and a GUI is needed. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using Matlab for this purpose? and is it possible? What more do I need?Please let me know if you need any more information. Thank you!

You can do almost anything in any language. Some might have more built-in libraries than others. Some you have to look for libraries and "import" them. Unless you're interested in learning a new language just for fun, I'd just go with the language you're most comfortable and experienced in.
