I'm using matlab R2014b for windows 32 bit.
For unknown reason matlab fails to launch with following error message:
"Failed to load nativecmdwin library: no nativecmd in java.library.path"
also a log window with "Error starting Desktop : java.lang.NullPointerException ...."
Can you advice how to fix the problem ?

I have the same problem as well but with version R2015a (student license)...I tried with other previous versions, for example R2014b but I got the same java error. It works only with R2011b version. Same as above, before was working without problem until one day and since then, it does not launch :( I am running Windows 7, 32 bit version. Anyone has found out a solution or contact Mathworks?
Thanks, Carlos

The solution can be found (indirectly) in the FAQ: http://matlab.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#After_installation.2C_MATLAB_crashes_or_gives_an_error_message_when_I_try_to_run_MATLAB.
By the way, since you've bought R2014b don't you get included with that a full year of upgrades and tech support? Why not just upgrade to the latest version and see if the problem goes away? That's what I'd do. I mean, why get started with a version that's already obsolete???

Why is it not after installation? It's not DURING installation is it? You must have installed it if you have been running it for the past few months, so your problem is with an already-installed version of MATLAB, right? Anyway, regardless, the answer to both was the same - call the Mathworks. There are so many reasons why something might not run and chances are no one reading your message will have experienced that same error so your best and fastest way to get it working is to call them for free help. It will be "free" because (1) you've had the version you bought for less than a year, and it's basically an "installation" issue, even though you don't want to call it that. To the Mathworks, whenever the product does not launch, that's an installation issue. And they give free telephone support for that, even for student and home licenses, for obvious reasons. There's no harm in asking here, but if you don't get an answer, call them tomorrow morning.
I already gave you my answer: reinstall or upgrade to the current version. If that doesn't work and no one else answers, you'll have to ask the Mathworks. They can even set up a webex session where they can look at and control your computer. They will definitely find the cause and fix the issue.
