After initial download and install, I cannot get MATLAB 2025b to open. During startup the large blue MATLAB icon appears in front of white screen and then closes (crashes). What are the troubleshooting steps?

MATLAB R2025b is the last release to support Intel-based Macs - thus it should work for your case.

Go into the /Applications folder and right-click MATLAB_R2025b.app and select Show Package Contents. In the window that comes up, expand the bin folder. Find the entry matlab under the bin folder. Double-click (left) the matlab entry.
This will result in a terminal window being launched to run the command /Applications/MATLAB_R2025b.app/bin/matlab ; exit;
If all goes well, that command will result in the MATLAB GUI being launched.
If not all goes well, then the terminal window will show some error message or other. If so, copy the error message(s) and post them here.
