Using the MATLAB Package Manager on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10

I want to install Matlab R2024b on my computer running RHEL 10. I have downloaded the MGM, version is 2026.7 Attempting to install any version immediately fails with the error
Error: Download failed. Check the network connection and retry.
This error appears in a simiar question: https://se.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/2128746-why-do-i-receive-the-error-error-download-failed-check-the-network-connection-and-retry-when-in. The MathWorks answer comments that MGM version 2026.7 is incompatible with RHEL. However I cannot find any other versions of MGM.

Answer from AI:
The root cause of this issue is a library incompatibility between newer Linux distributions (like RHEL 10 and Ubuntu 24.04) and specific builds of the MATLAB Package Manager (MPM). The download failure usually happens because MPM's built-in network or SSL libraries conflict with the modern libstdc++.so.6 or OpenSSL versions found in RHEL 10, causing the download threads to crash immediately.
Since the default MathWorks shortcut URL always points to the bleeding-edge version, you need to either fetch a specific older build or bypass the network installer.
Here are the best ways to resolve this:
Solution 1: Download a Release-Specific MPM Version
Instead of downloading the generic mpm binary (which currently pulls the problematic version), you can download a version tied explicitly to the R2024b release pipeline. MathWorks archives these on their servers.
Run the following commands in your terminal:
bash
# Download the R2024b-specific MPM binary
wget https://www.mathworks.com/mpm/glnxa64/mpm_R2024b
# Rename it and make it executable
mv mpm_R2024b mpm
chmod +x mpm
# Retry your installation command
./mpm install --release=R2024b --destination=/usr/local/MATLAB/R2024b [your_products]
Solution 2: Force MPM to Use System Libraries
If you must use the newer MPM binary, you can try forcing it to use RHEL 10's modern system libraries instead of its own bundled ones. You can achieve this by preloading your system's standard C++ library before running the command:
bash
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6 ./mpm install --release=R2024b --destination=/usr/local/MATLAB/R2024b [your_products]
(Note: If your system uses a different path, check where libstdc++.so.6 is located using locate libstdc++.so.6 or find /usr/lib64 -name "libstdc++.so.6").
Solution 3: The Offline ISO Installer (Most Reliable)
If network restrictions or library mismatches continue to block MPM, bypassing the online package manager entirely is the most foolproof method:
  1. Log into your MathWorks Account via a web browser.
  2. Go to the Downloads section and select R2024b.
  3. Instead of downloading the web installer, look for the option to Download the complete ISO image or Offline Installer.
  4. Mount the ISO on your RHEL 10 machine and run the classic installation script:
bash
sudo mount -o loop Matlab_R2024b_Glnxa64.iso /mnt
cd /mnt
sudo ./install
If the suggestions to solve your problem don't help, contact support:
None of these work. In fact, the wget command runs into HTTP 301 -> 404.

I modified the http-command - maybe it works now.
I personally recommend Solution 3 - it should always work.
But in case you have problems: Contact support as suggested. The members of the answers forum are MATLAB users, not MATLAB employees. The Mathworks team should know of these problems and how to handle them.
I have contacted MathWorks support after reading the MPM changelog:
2025.2 - October 15, 2025
  • Fixed: Addressed issues to improve the quality and stability of mpm.
  • Removed: mpm is no longer supported on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (RHEL 7). The last version of mpm that supports RHEL 7 is 2025.1. To get earlier versions of mpm, contact support.
Maybe that's what is written in Bug Report 4518678. The link you gave suggests
"If you are using release 2026.7 of mpm and a Red-Hat based Linux distribution, you will need to use an earlier release of mpm. Refer to geck g4518678 for additional information."
