osx El Capitan Matlab 2015a in full screen

Hi All,
This weekend, I updated my rMBP to osx El Capitan. Since then, when I operate Matlab 2015a in full screen mode, every time when I open a simulink file, or plot a large figure, it opens it in full screen as well. In a separate workspace. Then, when I try to close it, I am left in a completely black workspace. Of course, not really a significant problem, but it is getting annoying. Also because cmd+~ does not work anymore to switch from the opened simulink file/figure/whatever back to the command window.
The problem does not arise when matlab is in its standard non-full screen mode. AFAIK, i didn't change vital workspace settings after the update to El Cap.
Anybody already had the same 'problem'?
Many thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Timo

I confirm the same thing on my OS-X El Capitan with R2015b. It appears that launching Simulink in that circumstance triggers the creation of a second Desktop that has no background, and which the MATLAB session itself is not part of. I do not have Retina display.

In R2016b on El Capitan, if I have MATLAB and Simulink both full screen, and I "x" to close Simulink, and then I quit MATLAB, Simulink will get resurrected (will reappear) but no useful work in the zombie session will be possible as the MATLAB engine will be gone.

While R2015b is supported on Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan), full screen dialog boxes is a known issue. It is listed under item 4 of: http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/246135
Instead of using full screen mode, I would advise to resize the window manually or maximize the window using the Alt button, I believe that uses the old-style maximize behavior.

I'm still facing the black workspace issue on matlab 2016a and Mac OS 10.11.5
It really annoy me when i work in full screen mode. Closing and opening new figure from a script generate a set of black useless workspace in my mission planner.

Did you get MatLab 2015a to work on El Capitan OS X though? I am having trouble opening it after upgrading from Yosemite OS X.
