How to seperate real and Imagenery parts from equation???

% I have the following equation
syms a b  
p=(a+1i*b)*3.142*tan((a+1i*b)*3.142)-1i*1.23*340*sqrt((a+1i*b)^2*3.142^2+(3.142/0.8)^2+(3.142/0.6)^2)

% I tried with real(p) and imag(p) but not getting answer
