When Matlab starts, the command window fills the entire screen. Is there a way to ensure it opens at a smaller size, ideally the one it closed at? It seems to actually remember this, and for a split second on start up it looks like it is going to this, but then it expands to full screen. I do call a start up but it looks like the maximizing occurs before it is run. J

Thanks Ibrahim for your answer. This problem went away after updating Matlab installation the next year, and frankly I had entirely forgotten about it when your message arrived. Your solution however did not address the problem, as R2015 was NOT remembering the size it closed at. But its great that (nearly) 7 years on you took the trouble to respond!

You can go to Home on the toolbar.
Home >> Layout and set as default or you can resize various windows by dragging manually and go to layouts and save layout.
MATLAB remembers its layout before closing and opens the same layout whenever launched.
