How can I randomly extract 3D patches (mmm) from a 3-dimensional image?

I implemented a 2D patch extraction from 2D image but could not get it working for 3D.

However I need a random extraction of 3D patches from a 3D image.

How is your 3D image stored?

It is a medical data (3D volume) which I store as a matrix, [row*cols*depth]
