Fsolve for a matrix with known and unknown values?

I am attempting to use Fsolve to solve a matrix of values, say 7x7. How do I differentiate in my function which values in the matrix are known, and which are the values that need to be solved for? The equations to solve for the unknowns use the known values, as well as other parameters.
