how to display *dat file in matlab

i want to display the contents of dat file. is there any direct command for that in matlab like fopen,fread....

There are 49 different formats that use the .dat extension listed on filext.com, a website that catalogs information about file formats. Is your .dat file one of these 49 formats or a format of your or some other program's design?
