I have created a state-space model with 26 inputs and 7 outputs. Hence the step-response function creates a very large figure with 7x26 subplots. Is there a convenient way to focus/zoom into a single subplot?

Have you tried saving the figure as an image? If you just want to have a look at the figure, you can save it using print command with output as a an SVG image (since it will keep the resolution proper) and choose a high resolution.

Hello
you can save the step output in variables and then plot the ones you are interested in:
[y,t] = step(sys);
input = 20;
output = 4;
figure;
plot(t,y(:, output, input))
I hope this helps
