Relation between steering vector and radiation pattern

Does anybody know of the relation between steering vectors and radiation pattern in phased array antennas

You can think of steering vector as the field received at each element in the array. Hence, the field radiation pattern for a given direction can be obtained by adding elements in the steering vector together.
