Is Matlab Home license suitable for personal research project

5 views (last 30 days)
Suppose I am no longer a student and thus not entitled to use student version, and in addition not staying in an academic organization. However still want to play with some newest technology for some personal hobby or research project. The project has some potential to produce new knowledge for academic publication, e.g. a new machine learning algorithm. Could I use Matlab Home for such a purpose? The standard version is way too costly. I would have considered another programming language, e.g. Numpy or R a better option in such a situation. However the main problem is "collective vendor lock-in" of Matlab: a lot of other new algorithms are implemented only in Matlab.

It should be fine, though try to find out what toolboxes you need since that could drive up the price.

Yes, that would be fine provided you are not earning money from it.
