Does Matlab R2014a need Java to run on a Macbook Pro?

I installed Matlab on MacBook Pro successfully.But it is unable to open and shows me a list of Java related programs!Does this mean the two work together and I also have to install Java?

Could you post the Mac OSx version you are using as there was a bug regarding the use of MATLAB R2014a on the Yosemite Mac OSx, and later versions of Mac. The following bug report has the steps that may help in that case:

To use R2014a with El Capitan you need to use the fix that Shruti Shivaramakrishnan linked to.
