There was a problem sending the command to the program

I installed MATLAB and it ran well at first, but when I closed it and tried running it by double-clicking a *.m file it produced an error saying : "There was a problem sending the command to the program."

are you trying to run the script by double clicking a .m file? please elaborate
I have this problem as well. The issue is: I want to open the m-file. So, I double-click on the file's icon in Windows. Normally, this would launch Matlab, which would then launch the Matlab Editor, which would then open my m-file. Ever since I upgraded from Win7 to Win10, this doesn't work anymore. Instead, upon double-clicking on the m-file, one gets a Windows error with the text stated in the original post.

Open the matlab first and then try to run program.
Did you try to run FEX: file-association-fix already?
Hey, I am encountering the same problem with "MATLAB 2017b" on a machine with "Windows10 Enterprise2016 LTSB". Did anyone find a solution yet?
