You could get the Computer Vision Toolbox. The new release R2012a has face recognition. (I haven't tried it though.)

Without knowing any details the only reliable suggestion is to run your program on a faster computer. The profile command will help you to find the bottlenecks of your program, which are worth to be improved.
A remark: Is there any application of real-time face recognition, which does not conflict with the the protection of privacy data? I do not want my face to be recognized in real-time, do you?

Actually yes there are. When you're out in public, you expect to be seen and have little or no guarantee of privacy. Everyone knows that when you go into stores or other businesses they have surveillance going on. You may or may not be surprised at some of the uses.
Casinos were probably the earliest pioneers in that field - to identify known cheats (banned persons) for obvious reasons, and it's been successful (I saw a Discovery Channel show on it).
And it's also used at events like the Super Bowl to scan for wanted terrorists and known fugitives, and shoot them! http://articles.businessinsider.com/2012-02-08/news/31036430_1_sniper-twitter-follower-tripod They have caught known criminals at such events.
Now they're looking at iris identification at a distance and having some success (I just saw a demo this week in person) because it's less vulnerable to disguise. Iris ID might find you matching in your two previous avatars while a face ID program would have a tough time comparing your current avatar with the one you used briefly about a week ago.

Bewildering times.
I remember the "identification" and execution of Jean Charles de Menezes in London, 2005.
