Random Question: If MATLAB disappears tomorrow, what would be the immediate effect?

I had a heavy discussion with my colleague the other day about how our lives would change if MATLAB ceases to exist. Since we are in academics, it would slow down our research progress tremendously. However, I was just wondering how it would effect the people, who are not familiar with MathWorks products at all. How would their daily lives change?
