How do I go about applying LMS/RLS algorithms on linear/non linear data using MATLAB?

I have been assigned the task of producing a MATLAB model for time series prediction that will be tested on practical data using radial basis function. Despite spending countless hours on understanding the algorithms, I don't feel I understand how to make the first step in producing this, which I have been told is applying LMS/RLS on linear/non linear data. I wanted to know if anybody would be able to assist or push me in the right direction towards achieving this.
