how do I get simulink information on modelling without being trapped by simscape?

I have been looking for modelling examples in simulink for dc motors and shaft encoders and am trapped into reading about simscape? I do understand that you want to sell me more product but I am unable to justify more expenditure.

This page shows how to model a simple DC Motor with Simulink. You can feel free to ignore the Simscape section at the end as needed :)

Many thanks Sebastian, I have since located similar items with google. It looks like I will just have to avoid the mathworks.com stuff for a while.

I think there's still a lot of value in looking at MathWorks content, as they are the developers of the tools, after all.
One way to search MathWorks content is by going into Google and using the "-" prefix (e.g., "-simscape") to remove all search results that mention the toolbox. Funny enough, doing a search for "matlab dc motor -simscape" yields the link I gave you as first result, but another one that popped up was this example.
That being said, I'd be pretty careful about that. I often go into the Simscape documentation, which typically shows the underlying equations of Simscape blocks. It is possible to back out the equations from these components and put them into "plain" Simulink. While this involves manual effort to implement, it's an alternative to consider.
