I am trying to solve a PDE with Matlab. It's the 2-dimensional linear isotropic elasticity equation over a rectangle. Matlab only has the function to solve linear elasticity PDE in 3 dimensions: elasticityC3D(E,nu), so I'm kind of stuck. Any tips on how I might proceed? Thanks! I can provide the exact equations if necessary!

You can find the theoretical information here. A worked example using this theory is here. Because it is symmetric, the c coefficient is given in 2N(2N+1)/2-Element Column Vector c, 2-D Systems form.

Is it also possible to set the third dimension equal to 0?

I don't know, sorry. I suspect not, but feel free to try.

2D linear elasticity (plane stress, plane strain, and axisymmetric stress-strain) for small displacements are available as pre-defined physics modes in the FEATool Multiphysics FEM toolbox . See for example the thin plate with hole tutorial stress-strain benchmark example .
