Pause model until new data arrives

I have a Simulink model that processes much faster than the speed new input data arrives into the model. I have a control signal within the model that notifies when new data arrives. Is there a way to pause the model until the control signal specifies there is new data? I tried to use an enable subsystem block but I do not want to have the signal held at the last value for an extended period of time because it messes up the next part of the algorithm.

You could use set_param.
set_param('vdp','SimulationCommand','pause')
and once your signal arrives,
set_param('vdp','SimulationCommand','continue')

I tried this with assert but all the blocks get paused so there is no way to continue the model from within the model afterwards.
