After opening matlab, I have found a message -"Matlab license will expire in 49 days. Please contact your system administrator or Mathworks to renew this license"... but I installed it's free version 3 years ago. then why I have to pay now to get it? Is this software does not run after 49 days or it shows any other meaning which I don't understand? please help me what I have to do to get it free .....

Sorry, I cannot seem to find the book at this time.
It was an early version of MATLAB and was quite limited, more so than the current Student version or Home version.

If you got a free 30 day trial version, then it's free for 30 days. They figure that's enough time for you to figure out if it will work for you. If your version was installed 3 years ago, then it won't work and you'll have to ask The Mathworks if they'll give you another 30 day version.
If you got a free version from your university, like the R2014 version my son got from his university, then you'll have to contact your university about their rules for installing it.

@arun: do you know how to get the 6 months trial?

My understanding was that those trial licenses were only for use by students at universities that used to provide licenses to students, but were unable to do so for reasons connected to COVID-19 response, and the licenses were intended to get students through to the end of the term. As a new term is well underway, those conditions would not apply, so I am not at all sure that those kinds of licenses are still being made accessible.

Hi Arnab,
This occurs when your MATLAB license file is set to expire for one of several possible reasons. Simply re-activate MATLAB if you still have a valid license. I have attached a link below to our article that explains this message and resolution.
Why do I receive a message that MATLAB will expire in XX days?

True, I'd forgotten about that. Even though I pay for my license renewal every year, I still get a message once a year that I need to update the already-paid-for license. I just click OK and it does the license updating/renewing automatically (I just have to restart MATLAB after that).
