Why is loading ROS bag files so slow?

Opening a 800MB bag file taking approximately 20 minutes on a 4 core i7 with 32GB RAM and SSD's
I am unsure why this is taking so long? System is not memory,IO or CPU bound.

Sorry to hear the slow behavior of "rosbag" functionality. I see you are on 17a, in couple of weeks the R2018a PreRelease will be out on mathworks.com, I strongly recommend you to try it.
