Hello, few days ago I purchased on ebay Matlab R2008b (orignal but used). How can I activate this software? From where can I get a license key and activation software? there is no serial number on the box. I would like to use Matlab for my hobby, so the purchase of used but original software was the only way, which I could afforad it.

I am not aware this is even allowed. It might be for R2008b, but at least most licenses I know of are not transferable. The only way to know for sure is contacting Mathworks. You can contact support with the Contact Us button at the top of the page.

In the R2008b time-frame, the only way to purchase MATLAB "used" was to buy all of the assets of a company that owned a valid license, and then also get approval from Mathworks to transfer the license; Mathworks would expect to see a written record of the terms of purchase to ensure that you really were buying the entire company and not just the license.
Your "used" license is probably invalid. You will not be able to activate it.

Mathworks offers a Home license for hobby users, starting from about $US150 plus about $US45 per toolbox.

If the Home license is too expensive for you as well, you could look into Octave. I would only do that if you really can't afford it, because learning the language is much easier with Matlab, the support is better, and there are lots of smaller and bigger things that make Matlab easier to use.
I am going to look into this of with home license (this is what I need). The price is fair. I've heard about Octave, but Matlab is better, especially if I want to learn to how program. Thank you a lot for your tipp.
I did forgot to take into account that in Germany and Denmark (specifically), local law may override the MATLAB license in this matter. If you happen to be in one of those two countries, then contact Mathworks for assistance in transferring the license.
