MATLAB Coder doesn't pass MEX generation in Check For Run Time Issues

In switching from MATLAB 2015a to 2017a, we need to re-code functions that were done in 2015a but don't work in 2017a. The Coder application isn't able to pass the MEX generation during the Check For Run Time Issues and it won't say what the error is.

I am having the exact same issue at 2017a. After reading the comment above, I tried running MATLAB Coder on Matlab 2016b and generated code with no problems.
