How to import tap files?
Show older comments
Hello, I would like to import the data from a bunch of .tap and .dat files provided to implement a research paper. The link to the database with the data is : Data
I am not able to figure out which of these files contain the data and how I am supposed to import them. I tried importing the first .dat file but the output is incomprehensible.
The code snippet I used to import the data is:
a = importdata('DR002180_EXTRACTED_TAPE-READ00001.dat');
The output to the above snippet is:

How can I import the data in the link?
Which file should I use?
How should import it?
Thanks in advance

These data may be highly encoded and require a substantial research effort to extract. Binary formats that appear may include so-called .tap files that require specialized software to unpack.
Unless you have detailed information on how the data is encoded in the files, there is nothing you can do.
