adjusting the x,y axes ratios in plot (2d)

I want to adjust the x and y axis such that the graph has an aspect ratio of 1:1 (a square). Also, i want the x- and y-axes to have tick marks of the same distance (for example: x marks 16, 18, 20, etc; y marks 2 4 6, etc in distances of 2).
