Is it possible to create an automatic script that 3D plots points from an imported image?

I'm trying to take an imported image of a face (jpg, tif, common image files), and have a script that automatically outlines the head and other features such as the eyes and nose. The 2d imported images have the front, sides, top, and back of the head. My thought was possibly creating a script that is able to tell the difference in color from the background and face then plot that point until a plot of a face is made. Any suggestions/other approaches would be greatly appreciated
