xlsread error in Matlab R2018a on Mac

I am trying to load an excel (xlsx) file into Matlab R2018a on my Mac and the xlsfunction keeps producing an error: (line 260) index exceeds array bounds. The same code worked just fine on my PC, but when trying to run it on my Mac I get this error. I was able to work around the issue by re-saving the file with an xls extension, but would still like to know why reading an xlsx file on the Mac is creating this type of error.

Hello Helen,
- Are you able to provide a simple .xlsx file and call to xlsread that reproduces this issue?
- Also, might I ask what version of macOS you are using?
