I have just downloaded MATLAB and under user license I put my full name as I am the person who will be using this. I am currently logged in the laptop under my mother's user as I don't have a user myself, is this the reason MATLAB will not run? As it shows I have a 'license manager error -9' whenever trying to run MATLAB, and also says my username does not match the user name in the license file- how can I fix this problem?

In short: the name you give as the last step of activation, needs to be the login account name that it will be executed under.
"I am currently logged in the laptop under my mother's user as I don't have a user myself"
According to the user agreement, you can only install personal MATLAB onto systems that you own or lease (for standard or academic MATLAB, then system administrators can install on company/organization equipment as well, as long as they are owned or leased by the company / organization.)
So, legally speaking, your mother would have to install the software. If you do not have your own account, then by installing the software you would be agreeing to the user agreement on behalf of your mother, which you cannot really do.
yes, i created my own user and used set said user name as the license and everything is working fine now. Thanks for your answer.
Thank you for the deep insight sir Walter.
