Hardware Setup - Select Your Android Device : adb.exe has stopped working

Hi,
I have been trying to setup the android hardware with androidhwsetup.
The process goes ok until I have to select the device (a samsung A2017). There is simply no option showing the phone, and when I press
the refresh button, I get the adb.exe window showing message "adb.exe has stopped working" (see the picture attached, also to understand the
stage of hardware setup where I get blocked).
I have also tried with a different samsung phone and a different model, but again there is no model to select. Sometimes I manage not to get the adb.exe error message, but still no device is available to be selected.
Note that all previous steps of setting developer mode on the phone, allowing for USB debugging mode, and accepting exchange of data with PC have been done.
Any idea for a solution?
Thanks in advance!

Restart your PC and try the hardware setup again. Still if your facing the same issue, contact technical support for quick resolution.

Hi Mauro,
Thanks for your patience. Can you please try the following
Use a different USB cable and check, if that doesn't work, do the following
1) Uninstall the Android Studio
2) make sure, you delete the following folders, replace <username> with your username
C:\Users\<username>\.android
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk
3) Install Android studio and try Hardware setup again.
