Linking MATLAB with QGIS

I am working on a GA optimization problem to find the best tower crane combination of different jib lengths for a given site layout. For this I'll need to feed the values taken by my decision variables into the QGIS environment where the code will run and find out the number of tower cranes required for that specific chromosome configuration. The tower crane count will then be needed to fed into MATLAB for objective function calculation. I am completely new to MATLAB. Any kind of relevant resources to read or suggested line of action for establishing this automated connection would be very helpful.
