How to plot single axes handles from a GUI?

in my program i have

handles.axes_big

which i would like to open in a seperate figure with all of its properties.

all figure data are inside.

how can it be done?

newfig = figure() ;
copyobj(handles.axes_big, newfig);

Note: I do not promise that this will copy colorbar or legend information as those are not really part of the axes.

Also some axes that look like plain drawings turn out to have behavior associated with them that is attached to the figure.
