How to extract dimensions/measurements (i.e. length and width or diameter of a circular part) of certain features or objects in an image?

Hello,
I am very new to MATLAB and doing image processing and classification for the first time and I would really appreciate any assistance in this regard. I am working on creating a code which can classify a particular pavement distress and the quantify the damage as well. I have used transferred learning approach and created a CNN model based on ALEXNET for classifying the pavement distress and now I am working on the quantification part. I was wondering if there is a way to extract measurements from an image (such as length and with of a road along with the the length and with of the damaged part of the road) through some lines of code. Please see the attached images for better understanding of what I am trying to achieve.
I would really appreciate any and every assistance I can get on this,
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
For finding the dimensions of the road you need to convert your imae to binary image and then do pixel counting.

Also, is it easier if I know the spatial resolution of the images? If so, is there a way/ code to know the spatial resolution of the image?
