A\b will give an exact solution if an exact solution exists. It doesn't matter if A and b are complex.

In any case A\b provides x "a" least-square solution, i.e., it minimizes
norm(A*x-b).
If solution exists then the minimum is 0, meaning A*x matches exactly b (up to numerical precision error).
