Importing start time, end time and variable to SIMULINK and getting output back

Hello.
I would like to run a Simulink model in which there is an ASPEN Modeler block from an m.file. For doing this I want to SEND A VARIABLE along with the TIME INTERVAL within which the SIMULINK should solve using variable step solver.
For example, I will solve for 0-0.5 seconds in the mfile send the solution variable and this time interval to simulink. Simulink will in-turn solve from 0-0.5 (using a variable step solver with the ASPEN block) and send the output result back at t=.5. I will then use the result in the m.file to get the solution variable in the next interval 0.5-1, and so on.
I am confused with how to use the inport block, and the IMPORT/EXPORT panel in SIMULINK CONFIGURATION in SIMULINK or how to use the SIM command for this purpose.
I have figured out how to use the ASPEN MODELER BLOCK, but I dont know how to send and receive data from the m.file to SIMULINK WHEN THE SIMULATION IS RUNNING.
I would greatly appreciate your help.
Thank you.
