Identify the lungs from a CT scan

Hi
I want to first identify the lungs in the CT scan image of people with covid 19 disease and then separate them and remove the extra parts. In the code I wrote, in some images this diagnosis and separation is done accurately, but in some Not anymore !!
For example, in this case, no good result was achieved at all
I even used the function suggested through the MATLAB(attached) site and the result was the same as in the code I wrote.
Do you have a suggestion for filling in the blanks marked with a red circle?

I understand that you would like to identify the lungs in the CT scan image of people with Covid19 disease with accuracy and to fill in the gaps shown in the image. I would suggest you look at the link for filling up the gaps in the image here--
and also try different values for thresholding to see if that works.
