Matlab crashes after extended "sleep"

Why does my Matlab application crash (spinning beachball on macOS) when I put my laptop to sleep and wake it a few days later?

New Macbook, new docking station same problem. From the previous time I had this problem, mathworks suggests installing a different distribution of Java.

I have not attempted this as I'm concerned what else may break.

It's absolutely insane that this bug still exists in MATLAB. Like it's pretty unbelievable. And here I thought the lack of a true dark mode was the craziest thing about it. MathWorks must have some serious issues behind-the-scenes with their SDK GUI for these sorts of problems to persist this long.

This has been an ongoing problem for me as well. Long ago, I contacted Mathworks about this same issue - no resolution offered. It appears that Mathworks' ability to solve problems with their product is severely limited. When first detected, it was a sporadic problem, but recently it happens nearly daily. This is essentially a work stoppage situation, as large jobs will not finish prior to a "sleep" state occurring (which are mandated by my workplace), rendering Matlab nearly useless. I say this as a daily user of Matlab for 30+ years.

Mathworks: PLEASE FIX this problem - your product is broken.

@Sean Kenny: FYI, the Mathworks put it back on me. Since there is no "crash log" (the process doesn't terminate, it just becomes unresponsive; I have to kill it myself, so that I can restart it), they claim they don't have enough information to look into the problem. Instead, they recommend that I run Matlab from a VisualStudio debugger session. That's a heavy lift for me. I don't have/use VS, so I haven't yet done this.

In the mean time, they've closed the ticket. Thanks a lot, Mathworks! /s

Sounds similar to the response that I got the first time I reported this BUG several years ago. I plan to resubmit this today - hoping for a better outcome.....

I have this problem also! It is a very severe limitation on my use of Matlab, as I lose the state of my work when I sleep my laptop. I teach engineering, and thus for example cannot get some example systems set up before lecture, becuase walking over to teach results in Matlab death. Why can't this be fixed? It's going on for years!
