How do I download Hardware Support Packages and Optional Features for installation on a computer that is offline or that is behind a Proxy/Firewall?

MATLAB Package Manager

Available for MATLAB R2019a and newer
MATLAB Package Manager (MPM) is the recommended option for installing Support Packages on offline devices for releases of MATLAB R2019a and newer. Please refer to the following MathWorks documentation for details regarding the download and installation process: Install Support Packages on Offline Computer

Add-Ons Explorer

Available for MATLAB R2017b and newer
If your license permits the usage of the Add-On Explorer, it can be used as an alternative for obtaining the offline Support Package installation files. The Add-Ons Explorer is a feature of MATLAB, as such this workflow requires MATLAB to be installed on the internet-connected device that will be used to obtain the offline installation files.
  1. In MATLAB, navigate to the Home tab
  2. Within the Environment section, click the Add-Ons button
  3. Using the search box, search for the desired Support Package
  4. Once the Support Package has been selected, select Install drop down menu and choose Download Only
  5. A new window will appear, asking you to confirm the details regarding the product you are downloading. Follow the prompts presented in this window to select a download destination and perform the download.
  6. Transfer the downloaded installation files to the target machine.
  7. Within the folder containing the installation files, there will be a readme.txt file. This file contains release-specific instructions for installing Support Packages using the installation files previously downloaded. Follow the steps provided in the readme.txt file to complete the installation.
Note: Offline installation files obtained through the Add-Ons Explorer will only contain installation files corresponding to the Operating System that was used to perform the download. If installation files for other Operating Systems are needed, one of the other workflows should instead be used.

Support Package Downloader

Available for MATLAB R2017a-R2018b, Windows/Linux Only
The Support Software Downloader is an alternative to both the MATLAB Package Manager and the Add-On Explorer Support Package offline installation workflows for a subset of previous releases. The Support Software Downloader has since been deprecated and, as such, is only recommended if neither MPM nor the Add-On Explorer workflows can be used.
  1. Download and run the file from the URL below:
  2. Login to a MathWorks account when prompted
  3. Select and Download the Support Software
  4. Move the files to the target machine
  • This process is for MATLAB R2017a and above. Support packages for MATLAB R2016b and previous releases are no longer available using the above methods. To use support packages you must use a newer release.
  • Support packages that require the installation of additional third party dependencies may not be available to install using this method. These support packages may only be installable via an online method.

If you are using a proxy then you need to ask the proxy IT management about the username and password that you should use.
The domestic Internet speed is too slow to access foreign servers and is prone to errors. It is recommended that Mathworks put the third-party package on google drive or baidu network disk. -----from china
Hmm, I like to install the download from within my current MATLAB session - but I need to restart MATLAB to be able to use the installed package. This is not needed, as the manual process does not need a restart of MATLAB. Is there a solution for this?
